Wouldnt guinea pig food in the cage attract roaches and ants and stuff2007-11-24 22:20:17

i am going to put playpen fencing or another type of small fencing that they couldnt get out of in a circle or square(a big one) over a fleece blanket but now i realize that the food and stuff laying in the cage would easily attract roaches and other bugs. am i right?

Answers:

If you keep the cage clean (once a week), the area around it clean, your guinea clean, they shouldn't come to the cage. I'm assuming, also, that you will take care of the guinea every day thus, be able to spot anything out of the oridinary instantly.

To tell the truth, if it ever gets to a stage where ants and little critters come marching for your guinea pig food, I'd be more worried about a pest problem than just a food stealing problem. :) Guinea pig food isn't up high on their favorite foods list; they're more likely to go for sweet smelling crumbs.

Also, make sure to take out fresh food within 6 hours if they don't eat it as it will rot and attract flying little pests and annoy the piggy. :)

yes because they are attracted to the poo and urin. But ifs you do not see roaches in the kitchen when you turn on the light and night then you have nothing to worry about.. but if you do have visibly noticable roaches i would be woried.. Chances are the guinea pis will eat the roaches and thats is bad especialy if you put out poison..
