Y does my red eyed teddy bear hamster bite i got her on valentines day this yr & i am not used t
she bit my brother, me, my mom, my uncle, my niece, my sister, and my dog. her name is butterball and i take good care of her. i had plenty of hamsters growing up and i was able to hold them, and play with them. this hamster here is the first to bite, scratch, and bathe herself after i touch her. maybe she doesn't like me. she came from the petstore also. i'm thinking since she has red eyes, she is a devil hamster.
Answers:If hamsters are not handled a lot when they are very young they tend to bite. You might try luring her to you with a treat. Watch her body language, back off if she becomes stressed and let her approach you. This worked well with the rats we trained.
She's not a devil Hamster! I wonder how old and what kind and could she be pregnant or i hope not - but sick. Maybe she's not use to being held. Maybe it's life before you was without human contact/love! Alot of poor little animals are just money makers and their human experiences have not been good ones.
Are you grabbing her out while she's sleeping? Hamsters usually sleep during the day! Maybe you could gain her trust better if you attempt to let her climb into your hand at night when she's awake and active.

It's a female, so that explains most of it. When i first got MY female teddy bear, she wasn't used to me, her cage, and the new enviornment. Just wait awhile, and don't handle her for about a week, then try holding her gently, petting her alot, or let her run in a ball. She's not a devil hamster, red eyes are hereititary.
in your question you said your not used to her well maybe shes not used to you thats why she might be biteing.put a little treat in your hand when you handle her that might help.
RED EYES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!! all you have yo do is get your hamster used to u different hamsters have different personalities and what i'd do is get your scent on a peice of food just one and no more then put it in with other food then do that with other things in the cage do that everyday i hope it helps
