Yay Im getting a guinea pig what do I need2007-11-24 22:20:18

Toys are up to you, mine love wooden dangles made for birds. Also a jingle ball and a chew toy.

a cage, water bottle thing for the cage, food bowl, food, treats, chew toys, bedding, exercise ball, other accessories for the cage like tunnels
You can either get a big ferret cage or just get a big plastic box that you would use for organizing the things in your house.

They dont jump or try to get out and theyre really calm so you dont even need to lock them up in a cage.

The cage would be about 50 bucks but a plastic box (big!!) would be like 10 bucks from wal mart or something.

Get guinee pig food and maybe a wheel and a water bottle, some toys, and bedding.

20 bucks for that stuff.

Its sort of hard to answer. Where are you keeping them? What breed are you getting? What sort of bedding are you planning on using?

A short haired guinea pig does not cost as much ($20) as a long haired guinea pig ($50). Long haired guinea pigs need to be brushed everyday ($2 for brush) and need spot baths every now and then. Bathing can be done using resources from home; washing up liquid, water, clothes basket, towels. Short haired guinea pigs need to be brushed once a week with baths no-where near as often. Guinea pigs are herd animals by nature thus why they do better in pairs. In the short term this may not be possible but please consider getting 2 at some point in time.
