Your Opinion: a pair of male or female Gerbils2007-11-24 22:20:20

I know they should be the same sex in the pair, I am just not sure which sex to choose... any thoughts from experience?

Personally I like females better, they tend to care more about human interaction...

They seem to be a little bit easier to tame than males...

They also have a lot less aggression issues...

Even though they like being kept with others, males still tend to fight...a lot...

You should go to the petstore pick out 1 of each gender and ask to hold it or just pet it a little. See which one is more calm and pick that gender!

Well, I always had female gerbils. I don't think they smell as much as the males. They make good friends. Throw an empty toilet roll into the cage and watch them make mincemeat out of it! Don't do it too often - they bleach them to get them white (the roll that is).

You should definitely use females. Males often fight with each other and even kill each other sometimes. Or you could get a male and a female gerbil.

Knowing how male gerbils can be extremely violent (I've known someone who's had her males eat each-other), I would definitly suggest females.

DO NOT get 2 males. they will constantly fight, be extra smelly and will die faster. get 2 females, but make sure they r secure so that rats cant get in and breed with them!!
