My honest opinion is that I have had them as pets & also pet Rats & I prefer the Rats hands down ! They are smarter, cleaner, more lovable pets.

To me, hamsters are cute and easy to take care of unlike most other pets. They don't need to be taken for walks or to be bathed everyday.

Hamsters are cute, but tend to be nippy. They are also more solitary , so they are not as cuddly as a pet rat.

I NEVER thought I would like a rat as the tails creeped me out. BUT- I bought two baby female rats and they have turned out to be the best rodent pets I have ever owned. ( Ive had LOTS of different rodents over the years)

They love me and act like little dogs. They love to be held and played with. They get depressed being alone , so get two of the same sex if you choose to get a pet rat.

Rats have gotten a bad rap. Give them a try! You wont be sorry. They are awesome!

They are cute and can be fun pets. They require some care though. It is very important for their health that their cage be cleaned well and often and that they have a good supply of fresh food and water. They require something to chew on and fresh vegetables in their diet. They are mostly active at night so that can be a problem in some households. You can get them an excercise ball that they can run around the house it, that was kinda fun. Mine had a squeaky wheel that drove everyone crazy all night. Just keep in mind that they don't live very long, the oldest one I ever had was around 4 or 5. But usually they don't live longer than 2 or 3 years.

My personal opinion on hamsters - they're small but cute. They're rodents that can make excellent pets. Judging by the vast amount of questions on here, I think it's safe to say that many owners don't think it's necessary to take their hamsters to a vet if they become ill - which is a shame.
