Why isnt my hermit crab moulting2007-11-25 17:00:50

I've had my hermies for a while now, but none of them have moulted yet. I'm starting to get worried that they're not getting something that they need or something. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Answers:

they are afraid you might dredge them in flour and fry them up if they lose the shell.

Do they have enough sand to bury themselves in, and is it damp enough that they can do so without the "cave" collapsing on them, without being waterlogged? (think "sand castle consistency")

Do they have enough humidity in their tank? Is it warm enough? Are they getting the right food? Have they changed shells? Do they have a wide selection of shells to change into?

For the most part, Hermit's molt as they grow, so smaller hermits will molt more often than larger hermits will. A large one might go up to a year between molts, where as tiny ones might only go a month or two between molts.

As long as they are acting normal, socializing fine, eating fine, etc, then I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

Well many factors play a role in molting.

Some things to check,

temp and humidity of tank.

76-82 degrees F and 75%-85% relative humidity are the required levels, which need to be level, constant and monitored 24/7
