Will Two Male Rabbits Fight2007-11-25 17:00:50

I have one male bunny, who's a little under a year. I'm thinking of getting another bunny so he has someone to run around the house with. I don't want a female because I don't want them creating tons of baby bunnies, but he needs a friend! I'm not going to put them in the same cage or anything, but I wanted to know if male bunnies fight alot with one another. Any advice?

Please, please don't listen to some of the advice the previous people are giving you.

Two male rabbits WILL fight. There is no 'may' about it. It does't matter if they've never been around a female rabbit or not. Two sexually mature (ie: older than 3 months of age---testosterone-ridden) male rabbits will fight!

Male rabbits are VERY territorial. They are social only to a certain extent---not a whole lot of male rabbits occupy a warren--it is composed mostly of females, as rabbits are polygamous. And even those tolerated by the dominant male are frequently subjected to the dominant males' displays of aggression (dominance) to ensure breeding rights.

The point is both males will seek to establish dominance. Rabbits occupy -acres- of land in which other males are tolerated because each has their own space---your home will not provide them with enough space for them to feel comfortable with each others' presence.

Your best bet is to get your current male rabbit neutered and then adopt a spayed female to bond with him. Even neutered males generally don't tolerate each others' presence.and since rabbits sometimes do form monogamous pairings, a neutered male/spayed female is the best combo (there's very little aggression/bickering as opposed to same-sex pairings).
