Winter Blanketing
Winter Blanketing2007-11-25 17:00:51
I own a 3y/o appy gelding. It's now oct. and nights in sacramento valley now are around 60-45 degrees. I'm not sure if it's time for him to wear a winter blanket or not. He does like to roll and rub on trees which is rubbing his hair off so I really don't know. Tonight is supposed to be in the low 50's, mid 40's.
Answers:i usually put a blanket on wen its in the 30's or 20's. putting one on now could cause him to overheat and sweat.if hes a app then his coat isnt as light as a thoroughbred so i say u should wait untill its colder.
depends on how thick his coat is and what he is used to. I never started to blanket until around Thanksgiving but my horse was shaggy because we stopped clipping for shows in August
If he is not a show horse no blanket.
Unless the horse is rode a lot I wouldn't worry about a blanket. It's not going to hurt him to be with out blanket.
