would they kill each other or what would happen?

Answers:

I know for a fact that rats will kill mice. (Didn't do it on purpose--the mouse got put in the rats' cage and they almost immediately attacked it and killed it).

So I would expect that the rat would attack the hamster. Or vice versa. If they were put in a neutral location, say a bathtub or cage that neither one had ever been in, they might ignore each other as they look for a way out.

But, if you put one in the other's cage, the 'owner' of that cage would attack the newcomer.

The answer to that question is very elementary. You will have a ratster.

well first off, most hamsters are solitary animals ( except the dwarfs) and will not do well with ANYTHING else in thier cage.

second, the rats is much bigger and may attack the hamster.

BUT rats are severly social, and should NEVER be house alone. so get another rat

Nothing would happen. The two are similar enough in size that neither would have an advantage over the other. Rats are omnivorous -- they will eat anything, but they aren't usually hunters. And hamsters don't generally attack other animals either. The only qualifier would be if the female rat had babies and the male hamster tried to get near them, she would vigorously defend them, and that means biting and kicking.

Hamsters are extremely territorial and are solitary creatures. The rat is consideranly larger than the hamster. Someone will either get killed or very hurt.

for a few days nothings then one will try 2 dominate,so therefore the rat will win by killing the poor hamster with its teeth.kinda like a ratty gladiator fight except both fear each other.
