what would i look for when a goat needs to be milked
First she should have had kids, then her milk comes in. Then you milk so that the kids have enough for them or take them off or don't milk, but just leave them on. You can do that.
The udder will be full. You'll know when you see it. Then you milk her. She will practically be begging you to, because her udder is full and she will want it out, quick!
When you start milking you should milk twice a day, unless the kids are on, then you can milk once a day.maybe. If you want to milk it is best to take the kids off totally and then put them on bottles. Just give them momma's milk. Why not? If you don't want that you have to get the milk mix from feed stores or vitamin 'd' milk. Only whole milk (vitamin 'd' milk).
Anyway, then a couple of months before she gets bred again, you need to dry her off. You decrease her milkings to once a day and then after some time, limit the amount you take out during the milking. Then you can set her loose and her udder won't be too full and uncomfortable.
If you are worried that her kids aren't drinking all her milk, don't worry about it. The mother will adapt to it. Milk only if you want to do the above described.
I wish I understood your question better, but I hope I got it enough to help.
a bucket and your mitts, and don't forget a face protector in case the goat gets pissed. lol
big udders if you dont milk them it can be harmful to them
