Roosters can be very territorial ,

And See's your kids as a threat to him

(chickens are not very brainy!)

when i was young we used to have to walk past a farm

on our way to school ,

this evil, big black rooster, used rush out ,

to attack us every morning , !

I have kept chickens of my own since then

and not had a devil of a Rooster in my flock.

mine were all hatching's when i got them ,

so this may account for their friendly manner .

. but i know , first hand ,

how menacing a Rooster can be to a small child .

hens are much more gentle , though they can get grouchy when they are "broody".
